Danny Lin Elected: New Leadership for The Animation Guild (2025)

A New Era for The Animation Guild: Danny Lin's Presidency

The Animation Guild has a new leader, and his name is Danny Lin! In a recent election, Lin emerged as the unanimous choice to preside over the union's 5,000+ members. But here's where it gets controversial: Lin's victory comes at a time when the animation industry is facing unprecedented challenges.

Danny Lin, a writer and storyboard artist with credits on beloved shows like The Adventures of Puss in Boots and Adventure Time: Fiona & Cake, will officially take office on December 2nd. In a heartfelt statement, he expressed his honor and gratitude for the opportunity to lead the union, acknowledging its growth and power over the past decade.

However, Lin also highlighted the bittersweet nature of his victory. Many union members are currently unemployed and struggling financially, while their employers prioritize stock value and the latest AI technology over job security. Lin emphasized the need for hope, community, and solidarity in these dark times.

"We must cultivate hope, community, solidarity, humanity, and art. These are our beacons of light," Lin said. "I see these qualities reflected in our newly elected executive board and every member of The Animation Guild. We will continue to organize, fight, and win."

Lin will work alongside Roger Oda, an art director and background designer known for his work on X-Men '97 and Batman: The Long Halloween, Part One. Oda was elected vice president and also ran unopposed.

The election also saw the re-election of Steve Kaplan as the union's business representative and the election of Paula Spence as treasurer. Spence, an art director on Solar Opposites and Plankton: The Movie, currently serves as the recording secretary for The Animation Guild.

Jeanette Moreno King, the outgoing union president who has served for six years, was elected secretary. Moreno King, the director of Q-Force and The Freak Brothers, ran on a platform promising to "strengthen and modernize our union while protecting the hard-won rights and stability that members count on."

David DePasquale, a current executive board member and character designer who worked on Central Park and Arlo the Alligator Boy, was elected sergeant-at-arms. DePasquale pledged to listen to members and engage in difficult conversations, ensuring that all voices are heard.

The executive board also welcomed new members Marissa Bernstel, Candice Stephenson, Rachael Cohen, Chrissy Fellmeth, Andy Garner-Flexner, Roma Murphy, Dan Pinto, Kolja Erman, KC Johnson, Mike Rianda, and Claire Morrissey. Bernstel, Stephenson, and Cohen will serve as trustees starting in December.

All elected members will serve three-year terms, and the election, which ran from October 14th to November 7th, was supervised by AAA.

As Lin steps into his new role, the animation industry awaits with anticipation to see how he will navigate the challenges facing the union and its members. Will he be able to bring about positive change and ensure a brighter future for The Animation Guild? Only time will tell, but one thing is certain: Danny Lin's presidency is a significant moment in the history of this influential union.
