Thieves in Roubaix, France, have struck again, this time targeting a jewellery store and making off with valuables worth up to US$1.2 million. On November 12, 2025, the burglars broke into the boutique in central Roubaix, near Lille, and took the jeweller and his wife hostage before fleeing with the precious items. The stolen jewels were valued at 'between 500,000 and one million euros' (US$580,000 and US$1.2 million). This incident has sparked an investigation into kidnapping, organized crime, and armed extortion. In a separate incident earlier that day, a group of individuals blew up a cash transfer safe at Roubaix's main post office, escaping with an empty bag. Six people were arrested later that evening. These daring heists come on the heels of a high-profile robbery at the Louvre museum in Paris, where a gang stole jewellery worth an estimated US$102 million. The recent string of crimes has left authorities scrambling to enhance security measures and protect valuable assets across the region.
